Student Success Statement: Sophocles

Student Success Statement
“I would prefer even to fail with honor than win by cheating.”
                             Sophocles
Honestly, no matter be honorable. In everything and all the time, doesn’t matter if somebody sees it or not. No one has to recognize how much honor you have, only God, yourself, your family. And even if they don’t see it who cares? At least you’re going the right way. For example, a test, you know very well that if you pass that test you will be honored and given a scholarship  but if you don’t you will get no recognition. So you cheat and you get honored, get treated like a winner, but you know very well yourself that you aren’t a winner, you cheated. But let’s say you don’t cheat, so you fail the test, you have another chance. There are other things that are greater coming your way. And even if you were not treated like a prince or princess because you passed and aren’t told, “Good job” God is proud of you, because even though you failed, you didn’t fail to have honor. Being honorable is being real, doing the right thing. I honor my God by loving him all the time, I honor my parents by obeying them. Now honor yourself, this country, your school, friends, family, teachers, no matter what because when you honor them you are showing your good self and are honoring yourself. In a good way though not a conceited way. What I’m saying is that you should be honorable, one day you are going to be a mother or a father, and you would want your kids to honor you. So honor everyone, honor yourself. And have honor. Choose the right always.

Student Success Statement: Jim Rohn

  Student Success Statement
“You can’t hire someone else to do your push-ups for you.”
                Jim Rohn

Reflection: No one in this world can do anything for you. No one is going to live your life for you and that’s what this statement says to me. I am the only one with the choices and I am the only who decides things for my life. For example, when I started going to church I was not forced to love God but because of my choice I love him so much. I had a choice, to love him or not. But only I could make the choice right, no one else could’ve done it for me. Now that I have God I don’t have to take control because he’s in control im just the one that decides what it is I want. The way to him or the wrong way. This statement should be applied to every life. No one else is going to do your push-ups for you, on one else is going to finish school for you, no one else is going to have an abundant and successful life for you. You have to do it on your own. Once we grow up we are on our own. If you commit a crime your mom is not going to be going to jail for you. Here’s another thing, I know some people don’t do their homework and rely on their friend to finish it so they could copy the next day “Oh my friend did it I’ll copy him/her tomorrow.” No. The person can’t do your homework for you, you can’t steal the answers because it would be almost like the person doing it for you. It’s your choice and its up to you. Don’t rely on anyone, only rely on God. That’s how my life is right now. I don’t rely on anyone else but him. We are human beings who are in a really hard world. How do you want to live? Because no one can live your life for you. Choose the right.

Student Success Statement: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

                     Student Success Statement
“Cowardice asks the question ‘Is it safe?’
Expediency asks the question ‘Is it politic?’
Vanity asks the question ‘Is it popular?’
But, conscience asks the question, ‘Is it right?’ and there comes a time when one must take a position that I neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one’s conscience tells one that it is right.”
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Reflection: Everyone in the world has a conscience that they do or don’t follow. The biggest problem I see now days is the problem that instead of people following what they know is right or wrong they follow what the world offers them. What Dr. Martin Luther King Jr is trying to tell us is that there will be a time when we have to choose to do the right thing no matter how unpopular or scary it might be. It might not be safe, might not be political, it might not be popular, but it’s always right. The world offers you drugs and offers you money and offers the worst things sometimes. Why should we take up that offer when we know that it is wrong? I know that in my heart if I was ever offered drugs I would say know because I know in my gear that they are wrong. Now some people don’t care if it’s wrong they just want to look cool. The conscience is always right, I know some say that we should follow our hearts but our hear t can deceive us and will tell us what we want. It wants us to do the right thing but our conscience looks out for us and says ‘No’. I’m not saying the heart is bad but don’t always follow it because the heart can be deceiving. Just always do what is right no matter what.
