Genetic Counselor
Duties and Responsibilities:
Genetic counselors work with people
who have generic, or have inherited disorders or birth defects. They also help
people who are at risk of getting these problems. Genetic Counselors:
· Tell their patients and families
about their problem and tell them how to manage it.
· Examine the patient’s family history.
· Help patients and their families to
reach decisions about their disorder without having effect in their religious
or ethical beliefs.
· Research about the genetic disorders.
· Educate people about genetic
disorders.
Average
Salary: $25,000-$55,000
Educational
Requirements:
Students who would like to become a
genetic counselor should take a hard high school curriculum based on math and
science.
A master’s
degree is required. Many states require genetic counselors to be certified.

Answer: I would be interested in becoming one only
because it seems to help the family as much as the patient. I like to help
people and genetic counselors help people so I would like to be one. I would
like to be one and help as many people as I can in their decision making.
