Health Science Librarian
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Health science librarians and library technicians organize
and collect medical information that is needed for patient care, education,
research, and administration. Librarians
select books, journals, and other material needed. They also establish digital
information systems. They organize the information into collections and make
catalogs for access and provide assistance to patrons. They coordinate and
control budgets and keep an eye on library technicians.
Library technicians help librarians in
organizing collections, shelve books, manage circulation desks, answer
questions, and preform administrative duties.

Education
Requirements:
Students should take
challenging high school courses in information management, science, and
English.
Health science library technician training
varies by employer. Some of them provide job training but they all prefer that
students should do the training at a community college or technical school.
Associates degrees can be earned in many of the programs.
They should earn an undergraduate degree
in one of the life sciences and must earn a masters degree in library science
from the program that is accredited by the American Library Association. Some
of the programs offer special courses in health science librarianship.
